A living arc of women's thresholds

The Wise Woman's Rites of Passage Series - A Living Arc of Women’s Thresholds

Watch our YouTube conversation about the importance of this work!

Over the course of this series, we follow the arc of women’s living initiations and ceremonies for the different stages of life, restoring the practice of marking and honouring these thresholds.

This is a body of work co-facilitate by Anne-Marie Southcombe and  Veronica Larsson and occasional guest facilitators.
From menarche to menopause and beyond, we move through profound changes in our bodies, relationships, roles and inner lives. These thresholds still happen, whether we name them or not. Much of the traditional support for marking them has been lost, yet the need for recognition, context and holding remains.
This series follows the living arc of a woman’s life through the seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter. It creates space to pause, reflect and be witnessed in change, rather than navigating these transitions alone.

Why This Work Now
Rites of passage once gave context to change. They are a way of consciously marking a transition, honouring what is ending, what is emerging, and what is being carried forward. They acknowledged biological, psychological and spiritual shifts and connected them to the wider cycles of nature.
Many of those structures have fallen away. The thresholds have not.
We still move through menarche, motherhood, loss, menopause and ageing. We still change.
This work restores space to consciously meet those transitions. Not to recreate the past, but to bring awareness, meaning and ceremony to what is already happening in our lives.

What to Expect
The work weaves together women’s wisdom teachings, gentle embodied practices, guided reflection, inquiry, journey work and ceremony.
Ceremony is central. It is not performance. It is a conscious pause in ordinary time. Each ceremony is shaped by the women present and entered into by choice.
Numbers are intentionally limited to keep the space intimate and well held.

The Seasonal Thresholds
  • The Spring Threshold
The first threshold, the first bleed, Menarche, marks a real initiation, whether it was honoured or not. Most women crossed this threshold without context, language or care. Yet what was learned in that moment often travels with us into our relationship with our selves, our bodies, work, intimacy, rest, productivity and even menopause.
This day is not about reliving girlhood. It is about meeting that first threshold as the woman you are now, with awareness and choice.
  • The Summer Threshold
This is for women in the summer phase of life, regardless of whether they have children or not. Even if a woman chooses not to have children, the motherhood threshold is still something she has had to meet at some point.
This threshold includes women who do have children, who do not, who cannot, who have tried, and who have lost. All of it belongs.
This is not only about mothering children. It is about creation, responsibility, fertility in its many forms, and the ways we have carried, held or longed for life.
The invitation is to consciously acknowledge what this threshold has meant in your own life.
  • The Autumn Threshold
The Autumn threshold is for women in or approaching perimenopause and menopause. It is also open to women of any age who feel called to sit in the wisdom of this phase.
Menopause is more than a biological transition. It works on every level. Physical, mental, emotional, energetic and spiritual.
It is potent. In many ways akin to a spiritual evolution. It often brings old material to the surface and demands that we pay attention.
This gathering offers space to consciously meet that demand and to claim the depth and authority available in this phase.
  • The Winter Threshold
The Winter threshold is the Crone or Elder phase.
This gathering is open to all women, whether chronologically in this season or not.
The Crone is not only an age. She is a depth of seeing. A distillation of lived experience.
For women in this phase, it is a space of recognition.
For younger women, it is an opportunity to honour elderhood rather than fear it.
Winter is not an ending. It is a returning to what is essential.

Integration Days
Alongside the seasonal thresholds, there are Integration Days.
Rites of passage are powerful. They move things. Integration allows that movement to settle into the body and daily life.
These days may include somatic and body based practices, deeper embodied inquiry, and at times the Holding the Bones ceremony.
This is steady, attentive work that is about tending to what has already shifted or is shifting.
Attending the SeriesThe series unfolds across the year, yet each gathering can be attended individually. Each stands alone while also contributing to the wider arc.
If you feel the call to consciously mark the thresholds of your life, you are welcome.
You do not have to navigate these transitions alone.

Upcoming dates are 19th of April and 23rd of May.
